How to Make Kava Taste Better

If you want to know how to make kava taste good, trying out some kava recipes is a great place to start.

Many people love kava’s amazing relaxation effects. Few however, are in love with its earthy taste. Kava is an acquired taste. Mixing kava with other nonalcoholic drinks: juices, teas, or purées and flavors can mask kava’s bitterness and create a more flavorful beverage.

Many kava bars recommended that first time kava drinkers start by trying the equivalent of a kava “mocktail.” By mixing kava with other drinks and flavorings they have created their own unique recipes to make drinking kava more palatable.

Kava chasers are also common. A kava chaser is a slice of fruit or nuts that you eat immediately after chugging down a shell of kava to quickly eliminate its’ unpleasant flavor and refresh your palate.

Below we share with you our favorite kava drink recipes. Some coming from our own Kalm with Kava kitchen, some coming from our favorite kava bars, and others sent to us by customers.

Creamy Pumpkin Spice Kava Chai

Pumpkin spice is a perfect pairing for a kava tea. They both have a slightly earthy flavor and strong spices mask kava’s bitter tang and, some say, make it more potent. It’s easy to see how a pumpkin spice kava chai recipe makes total sense.
